Late last summer Leigh and I took a journey from Portland up to Seattle and caught the Fauntleroy ferry to Vashon Island – the rural, southern-most island in Puget Sound. Time goes a little slower here in relation to Seattle, whose skyline lies in eyesight to the northeast. Teppei Teranishi escaped the hectic Southern California pace of life to settle here a few years ago. He and his wife own a plot of land complete with farm animals and a fruit-bearing cherry tree just a mile or so down a winding country road from his downtown leather studio. We spent an afternoon in the studio talking about his process, his vision and life on the island.

I spent time this past February in Seattle photographing artists and designers for what would result in a full week of Seattle-based features for my friends at Sight Unseen. Above: three outtakes from each profile with link to the original feature beneath each.
Above: The cover, spread and personal outtakes from a sunny afternoon I recently spent in the LAND design studio in Austin, Texas. Ryan Rhodes & Caleb Everitt reformed a defunct medical supply warehouse into their spacious design studio that also doubles as a motorcycle workshop. The design duo have been highly sought-after and also highly imitated as of late for their patented hand-drawn approach and tight aesthetic. Monster Children covered the story on their blog as well as in print for Issue 42, which is available at newsstands now.

I had the honor of photographing Texas-based designer and artist Alyson Fox and her beautiful home/studio not once, but twice in the recent months.

Last summer I shot a series of shops and cafes in Portland, Oregon for Kinfolk’s City Guide series.

I recently had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with architectural designer and baseball manager Jack Sanders of Design Build Adventure at his studio/home in far east Austin as he prepped for an upcoming art show involving pressed tortillas.

Last summer I had the chance to photograph Brian Faherty and his Oregon HQ of Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. The impressive repurposed warehouse in NW Portland houses a storefront, cafe, florist, offices and factory.
This feature was originally shot for the now defunct Nothing Major.
