FvF: Jack Sanders

I recently had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with architectural designer and baseball manager Jack Sanders of Design Build Adventure at his studio/home in far east Austin as he prepped for an upcoming art show involving pressed tortillas.

Comal / Frio

I took a solo trip to the Hill Country this past weekend and spent some time on the banks of two great bodies of water. These somehow look like paintings to me.
1-2. Comal, Comal County
3-4. Frio, Real County

Synonym: Issue 3

My girlfriend Leigh Patterson is the editor of Synonym Journal. Issue 3 is now available for order and physically stocked in a handful of fine shops worldwide. Following a central thematic structure around the idea of “cliffhanger”, this issue explores the particulars of unfinished endings, suspense, physical reactions to the sensory, melodrama, etc and features work by Rachel Albright, Lou Benesch, Brian Ferry, and Brion Nuda Rosch among others. Highly recommended.
More info + ordering here.

E 2nd Street Flea

Last Sunday, the inaugural E 2nd Street Flea took place in Austin. Housed in the warehouse adjacent to Sam Hill, over a dozen local vendors (Farewell Books, Flattrack Coffee, Traveler Denim, Lumiere Tintype, and Watchman Woodworks among others) set up temporary shop to display their wares.

Ooga Booga

What was originally shot for a now defunct Nothing Major, here is a feature on the downtown shop and gallery space for the amazing, Ooga Booga. Located just east of the LA River on S. Mission, the shop houses an elaborate collection of art books, journals and zines; a gleaming mine of thoughtful publications. The shop’s adjacent gallery space boasts massive square footage and an on-going program of unique exhibitions from reputable artists (Laura Owens’ “12 Paintings” show pictured above).
More on Ooga Booga via their blog.

Italy, 2006

Found some old shots I took in Italy back in 2006 while scouring some old external hard drives. I’d love to one day revisit some of these places from that trip: Lago di Como, Vernazza, Siena and Firenze.

Recents

Been catching my breath the last couple weeks. A lot of works pending, so please stay tuned. Here’s a shot I snapped during some photo work Leigh was doing for Spartan.

Fall Windows

It finally is starting to feel like Fall around here in Austin. Leaves have somewhat changed, temperatures have dropped and houses are warm and glowing. Above: a few shots looking out of my windows on a recent chilly morning.

Autumn Music 2013 for FvF

At long last, the fall playlist is here. I had the pleasure of curating this mix for my friends at Freunde von Freunden in Berlin.
The FvF Mixtape #63 was drawn together from a variety of artists across a breadth of genres through recent releases this year; all befitting an autumnal tag. Links, info and previous seasonal mixes below.

Filson, USA

A few months ago, I had the distinct pleasure of visiting the new Filson headquarters. The well-lit factory is on the bottom floor with the offices and showrooms above in the beautiful warehouse just south of downtown Seattle. Renown for their heritage (c. 1897) and quality of outdoor goods and luggage, Filson is bigger and better than ever.
The above photos are an addendum from the original feature on Nothing Major.
